About Susannah Compton

Susannah Compton is the founder and formulator behind Florescent, a line of 100% botanical perfumes she blends in small batches from organic and wild crafted aromatics. Plant-based skincare and cosmetics are a way of life for Susannah, who writes about clean beauty and the benefits of botanical ingredients for No More Dirty Looks, Thoughtfully Magazine and Integrity Botanicals. Florescent, however, is Susannah’s personal expression of healthy beauty. Susannah has been working with botanical aromatics for years, blending first for therapeutic purposes before delving into the art of perfumery. Having rarely experienced the depth and complexity of true botanicals in conventional perfume, she learned the art of blending and created what her heart desired — a scent that would move her the way perfume should. In search of those elevating, ethereal bouquets of scent, Susannah honed her skills behind the perfume bench. She launched Florescent in the spring of 2015 to share the lush experience and pleasing ritual of real perfume.

I learned to stay far away from chemical sunscreens like oxybenzone and avobenzone (these always […]

DIY Post-Sun Repair Spray

There’s something about the July 4th holiday that makes it officially feel like summer.   Summer is notoriously rough on skin. Extra sweaty days can leave our pores congested, harboring bacteria that allow acne to thrive. So how to prepare for the inevitable spot or two? Remember those acne treatments that always seemed to burn and make skin even more irritated and red, even if the zit in question […]

Captain Blankenship’s Sail Away Bug Spray

When product efficacy really counts, it can be a gamble to swap out a conventional product for a natural, non-toxic replacement. Bug spray is the perfect example of this. Will it work without the traditional pesticides? In my mosquito infested part of the world, an effective bug spray is critical to enjoying summer weather. I’m […]

How to Use the MOSS Skincare Halo Sun Protection Powder

Green beauty continues to innovate in the sunscreen department. We’ve come a long way since the first super heavy, very whitening sunscreen I tried years ago that literally sat on top of my skin like a thick buttercream paste. Even though far more practical and cosmetically appealing options are available now, it can hard […]

An All Natural Shaving Routine For Men

In honor of Father’s Day, I thought it would be fun to talk about men’s routines for a change. Since most of my skincare advice applies just as readily to a man’s routine as a woman’s, let’s talk about something that is truly manly—shaving! While beards and moustaches don’t seem to be slowing down as […]
