About Susannah Compton

Susannah Compton is the founder and formulator behind Florescent, a line of 100% botanical perfumes she blends in small batches from organic and wild crafted aromatics. Plant-based skincare and cosmetics are a way of life for Susannah, who writes about clean beauty and the benefits of botanical ingredients for No More Dirty Looks, Thoughtfully Magazine and Integrity Botanicals. Florescent, however, is Susannah’s personal expression of healthy beauty. Susannah has been working with botanical aromatics for years, blending first for therapeutic purposes before delving into the art of perfumery. Having rarely experienced the depth and complexity of true botanicals in conventional perfume, she learned the art of blending and created what her heart desired — a scent that would move her the way perfume should. In search of those elevating, ethereal bouquets of scent, Susannah honed her skills behind the perfume bench. She launched Florescent in the spring of 2015 to share the lush experience and pleasing ritual of real perfume.

When I was growing up, Lip Smacker was a big deal, especially the Dr. Pepper flavor. Like most families, we also had a stash of Chapstick, Carmex and Vaseline around the house for chapped lips and winter dryness. Somehow, they never seemed to do the trick. My lips would feel extra parched by the […]

Ingredient Spotlight: Blue Tansy

For fans of calming, soothing botanical ingredients, blue tansy is a must-have in skincare. You’ll recognize it by its telltale indigo or blue color as well as its sweet, herbaceous and slightly fruity aroma. Blue tansy, also referred to as tanacetum annuum, gets its color from its high azulene content. Like German chamomile, blue […]

Immune boosting botanicals are something I try to incorporate into my daily routine, and on the rare occasion that I get sick, I double down on the healing and inflammation busting ingredients in my pantry. Earlier in November, I was surrounded by people with really bad colds—the kind that just shut your body down. My […]

Winter Solstice Wellness

For those of us in the Northern Hemisphere, last night’s winter solstice marks the longest night of the year and the shortest day of the year. Though the days will steadily get longer and we’ll enjoy more sunlight from here, the winter solstice marks the astronomical beginning of winter, and the start of the three […]

Before I discovered clean beauty, I wasn’t big on hair products—thank goodness, since conventional hair products contain some of the worst ingredients, many of which get inhaled during use. However, the clean beauty hair care brands I love make some of the most innovative and effective styling products that give my hair a much needed […]

New Creams from La Bella Figura

As much as I love and depend on face oils to replenish fatty aids and add vitamins and minerals to my skincare routine, I am an ardent fan of a good old-fashioned cream moisturizer. La Bella Figura has been on top of the face oil and serum game for a long time, producing gorgeous […]
